Leaving – what to do with your apartment in the summer
27.04.2020Are you terminating your tenancy agreement for the summer? Remember that we will give priority and offer vacant and soon-to-be-vacant shared apartments to new out-of-town students at the end of summer and in the autumn.
You can temporarily assign your apartment to another tenant for the summer or some other temporary absence. Please note, however, that your tenancy agreement will remain the same. This means that you still take responsibility for the apartment and paying rent. To make use of temporary assignment, you need to look for a temporary resident and fill in a temporary assignment form with them. After that, simply sign the form with the temporary resident, add any necessary documents to it and deliver it to TOAS’s housing office one month before the temporary assignment begins.
We do not require a reason for temporary assignment during the summer (May–August), and the temporary resident does not need to be a student. Keep in mind, however, that the temporary resident of a shared apartment must be the same gender as the original tenant.
Furthermore, TOAS’s apartments are still meant for students first. The tenancy agreement forbids subleasing the apartment, so hosting tenants through Airbnb or profiting from our apartments in other ways is out of the question. Our rules also forbid profiting from the temporary assignment of an apartment.
If you are leaving your apartment empty for the summer, make sure you run a lot of cold water down the drains before you leave. Nobody wants to come home to smelly apartment!
