Our Regular Application ProcessReady for student life at TOAS? Looking for an unfurnished room? Let’s check a few things first.

Who is Eligible to Apply?

Your studies must be full-time and lead to a degree. TOAS offers apartments only to students who study in Tampere (or in nearby municipalities Nokia, Pirkkala, Lempäälä, Ylöjärvi, Orivesi, Vesilahti if the apartment situation allows). Please note that preparatory education (e.g. Telma, TUVA), upper secondary school for adults, folk high school or single courses do not entitle for TOAS apartment. If you’re unsure whether you are eligible to apply, please check it beforehand.

All applicants must provide information on their monthly income and the value of assets in their application. Should the applicant have a high income, they will not have priority for the apartments and are not likely to get a studio. However getting a Quickly Available apartment is possible if the applicant has a valid application for the apartment type in question. PhD students may apply the same way as Bachelor and Master students. Resident selection is also regulated by the guidelines of the Housing Finance and Development Centre of Finland ARA.

TOAS checks the credit history of each applicant before sending an accommodation offer. Data on the credit history may affect the applicant’s chances of receiving accommodation. If there is large or fresh data on the applicant’s credit history or the data is related to rental payments, TOAS may reject the application.

Post doctoral students and researchers may apply only for the short-term accommodation, which will be offered on the basis of availability, and such an agreement will always be for a fixed term. Apartments are shared apartments and are mainly located outside the city centre. Studios are not available.

Please note that during the summer, apartments/rooms are rented up to 31 July. Submit your application at the earliest one month before you need the accommodation.

If you are unsure whether your studies are full-time, please contact TOAS office.

Looking for Short-Term Residency?

Instructions for Applying

We recommend you get to know our website and the apartments and locations we offer. When you fill in an online application you are placed to wait for an apartment for the locations you are applying for. You can apply for a shared apartment, a studio and a family apartment (separate application for each apartment type). You may define the apartment size, room number and, in studios and family apartments, also the maximum rent.

Remember to complete the application before you start to submit a new one.

Take Notice!

  • Notice: the waiting time for an unfurnished studio is at least 6 months or more. A room in a shared apartment is the easiest and fastest to get, except during the Summer and Fall.
  • During the autumn (mostly July-September), it is extremely difficult to get a room, as there is less availability and the newly accepted students are prioritized for shared apartments and family apartments.
  • With this application all apartments are unfurnished, except for shared apartments in Mikontalo. If we have any furnished family apartments available, they will be announced on the “Quickly available apartments“-site.
  • If you have already graduated, you will no longer be able to apply for and receive a new apartment from TOAS

You can only have one valid application per apartment type at a time, but you can apply for all apartment types.

This means that you can have one shared apartment application, one studio application and one family apartment application valid at the same time.
