Our 60th anniversary praised cooperation and emphasised the importance of students
On Thursday, 16 May 2019, we celebrated TOAS’s 60-year journey with staff, background organisations, stakeholders and partners. We reminisced about the past, but first and foremost, we looked to the future.
The event began with a seminar at the Tampere Theatre. The speeches at the seminar offered listeners views and thoughts about the appealing student city that Tampere is and will continue to be. Speeches and presentations were given by parties who work closely with TOAS. Each speaker emphasised the role of students as a part of Tampere’s appeal. TOAS’s and Tampere’s ecological and sustainable operations were also given special attention. We were thanked for being trailblazers and for keeping up with the times. In addition to these speeches, we heard TOAS residents talk about what their tenant committees were doing and how locations constantly strive to improve community spirit with different events and more.
After the seminar, the event moved to Tampere City Hall where we got to enjoy an entertaining Tampere-themed show from the Teekkarikuoro Choir. During the show, we were treated to songs from Juice Leskinen, Eppu Normaali and, of course, Mikontalo’s own song. We wanted to recognise the long history of cooperation that the Student Union of Tampere University has had with TOAS and the important role the Union has played in improving TOAS’s operation, so we donated the Union a piece of photograph art from Vanha Domus with everyone present for the occasion.
We hope that the cooperation, focus on important matters, good times and feelings of happiness from the festivities continue in our everyday lives. The past decades have brought us experience and stability that we will carry with us to the future while maintaining our youthful enthusiasm.
