Let’s be considerate towards our neighbours
26.11.2020
Most of our tenants are currently spending a lot of time at home as studying and working is mostly done remotely. For this reason, it is extremely important that we consider our neighbours in all activities that cause noise, whether it is during official silent time or at other times. Still, the sounds of daily life are a natural part of housing cooperatives. By being considerate towards our neighbours, we can make sure that everyone is able to sleep at night and work and study in peace during the day.
We spend time at home differently depending on our lifestyles, which means that we also make different kinds of noises. According to the Finnish Real Estate Federation (FREF), normal sounds related to living include for example showering, babies crying, children playing, occasional bumps, cleaning and the sound of washing machines.
Please be considerate towards your neighbour when exercising indoors. At-home exercise may be louder than you think, especially during official silent time. You should also make sure that you are not making too much noise during other indoor hobbies and activities. Of course, nobody is allowed to purposely disturb someone’s peace at home either. This includes making an unusual or unreasonable amount of noise, making noise with activities that are not appropriate during a certain time of day and breaking the general rules. On the other hand, nobody can expect perfect silence, even at night. For example, some people work in shifts, which may cause some noise at night.
We hope everyone stays happy and healthy during this different and unique time! Let’s do our best to stay positive and be understanding of our neighbours.😊
