Lock your bike correctly on the new bike racks

26.04.2019

Several of our locations will get new bike racks during the spring to improve locking the bike frame. To get the most out of the new bike racks, the bike should be locked to the rack correctly.

The most effective way to lock a bike is to lock the bike’s frame and back wheel to the rack with a U-lock and to also lock the front wheel to the rack and the frame with a cable lock. You should also check to make sure that your insurance company’s home insurance covers bike theft, because no lock is completely unbreakable. Insurance will not cover the theft of an unlocked bike, so always remember to lock your bike in some way.

Here are some tips for our residents who use a bike:

  1.  Always leave your bike in a locked bike storage and lock the bike, preferably from the frame to the bike rack!
  2.  Use both a U-lock and a cable lock.
  3. If you leave your bike on the street or in a courtyard, leave it where it can be seen and lock it as high in the frame as possible. Many passers-by don’t notice thieves lurking in dark bushes and corners. This, in turn, makes the thieves more successful.
  4.  Make sure that your home insurance is comprehensive enough.
